Archbishop Lackner on the deceased spiritual leader of the “Rosary Atonement Crusade”: “Church loses great man of prayer”
Vienna (KAP) – The spiritual leader of the “Rosary Crusade” (RSK), Fr. Benno Mikocki, died on Friday at the age of 91 in the Franciscan monastery in Vienna. This was confirmed by the chairwoman of the prayer community, Traude Gallhofer, to Kathpress, who personally looked following Mikocki to the end. The Franciscan priest worked for a total of 47 years for the prayer community, which was founded in Austria in 1947, has spread beyond national borders and is connected to around 700,000 people. The chairman of the Austrian Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Franz Lackner, also recalled this and stated to Kathpress: “With Fr. Benno Mikocki the church loses a great man of prayer who lived out of the Holy Scriptures.”
“He dedicated his strength and efforts to peace in the world, following Petrus Pavlicek,” said the Archbishop of Salzburg, who acts together with Cardinal Christoph as protector of the prayer community. “For me he was a model of Franciscan brotherhood and helpfulness,” says Lackner, who himself belongs to the Franciscan order. “The Church of Austria owes him great gratitude – may his great work be richly rewarded in the world to come.”
