“Conquering the World with Chocolats Favoris: The Journey of Entrepreneur Dominique Brown”

2023-04-21 04:00:00

Dominique Brown has said it since the beginning of the adventure with Chocolats Favoris: he wants to conquer the world. It is the dream that he is trying to get back on track following three years of a pandemic that has forced everyone to worry regarding everyday life more than tomorrow.

“We are once once more becoming a company focused on the customer experience, we are bringing back magic, when we had to be logistical and mechanical in the pandemic”, observes the entrepreneur, who wants to recreate the pleasure of before.

The magic, the dream, it is always what Dominique has carried since his 10 years at the head of Chocolats Favoris. His candor in this area, which was brand new to him following ten years in video games, allowed him to create.

“I was quite naive at the start. Not knowing the environment, I did not know the stages or the difficulties that would arise along the way. I was able to think without constraint and that made it possible to innovate. I didn’t think of everything that wouldn’t work, like you do when you have experience,” reflects the entrepreneur who came up with the idea for the canned chocolate fondue.

With hindsight, he also sees that inexperience led to costly mistakes and that he might have better balanced his entourage between neophytes and connoisseurs.

“But would we be in the same place today?” he asks himself, accepting that the path has been imperfect.

A transformative journey

As much as Dominique dreams for Chocolats Favoris, glimpsing a planetary future, he savors the small daily pleasures in his personal life, without building up many large-scale plans. By selling Beenox, he just wanted to buy a good bike. It took years for the dream of a long sailing trip, with the family, to be born. In July 2021, he therefore hoisted the sails with his wife and children to sail from Quebec to the Caribbean, to live according to the wind and the tides.

“I spent a significant part of my life telling myself that it was going to be fun when we got out of diapers, when the little one went for a walk or went to school. And when we do that, we don’t think it’s fun now,” says the father of five, happy to have lived precious moments with his family during this one-year trip on the Globe Trotter.

In particular, he got very close to his daughter Jessica, who spent several months on the sailboat.

And he fell in love with Les Saintes, a string of islands in Guadeloupe that looks like paradise on earth.

Innovate once more

His gratitude is palpable. His colleagues allowed him to experience these moments. Twenty years presiding over companies was also twenty years of intense work, without long downtime.

Dominique never imagined at the time of his departure that the pandemic crisis would stretch out and that the business challenges would multiply: inflation, disrupted supply chains, teams to rebuild.

“I have to come back to the future vision because three years of the pandemic have plunged us into daily, short-term challenges. We did well, but we can’t say that there is no fatigue following a marathon, ”he notes.

In the company, pleasure rhymes with innovation, which will come back in force this year – we are promised a grandiose one.

And in his personal life, Dominique will be inspired by his spouse Stéphanie, who knows how to transform small nothings into bursts of happiness.

A lot of

  • Entrepreneurship is…? “Building from a blank page, without instructions. Find the resources to make the project happen. »
  • Who inspires you? “My spouse because she is so balanced! Always in a good mood and in the present moment. Nothing makes her happy. »
  • If you might change one thing in the world, what would it be?
“War, which makes no sense. Starting with the one in Ukraine. »
