In his first season with the Boston Celtics, point guard Malcolm Brogdon received the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award on Thursday.

A total of 60 of the 100 voters chose Brogdon first for this award, which recognizes the best substitute player in the league.

Second place went to young New York Knicks point guard Immanuel Quickley, who got 34 first-place votes, and third to Milwaukee Bucks power forward Bobby Portis, who got six.

“It’s a great honor,” Brogdon told TNT following the award was announced.

The 30-year-old point guard was recruited this season by the Boston Celtics to lead the second unit of the current runners-up.

In the past three courses, Brogdon was one of the figures for the Indiana Pacers.

“Moving from Indiana to Boston was definitely a transition for me,” he recalled. “But I’m in a great organization, I have great teammates and a great coaching staff.”

Brogdon became the second player to win both the Sixth Man of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards, which he received in 2017 while playing for the Bucks.

Only Mike Miller, already retired, also has that double distinction.

In his 67 games this season, all coming off the bench, Brogdon averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists for Boston.

Led by All-Star guards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the Celtics finished the regular season in second place in the Eastern Conference behind the Milwaukee Bucks.
