Slovakian Milan Skriniar, Inter’s fifth Serie A defender, underwent back surgery in France to treat a problem that kept him out of action for several weeks, Nerazzurri club reported Thursday.
Inter said that Skriniar “underwent surgery on Wednesday at the level of the lumbar spine,” adding that the rehabilitation journey for the Slovakian defender would take “a few weeks.”
The surgery was carried out in France at the Mérignac Sports Clinic, near Bordeaux, as determined by the 19-time Italian champion.
According to many media outlets, Skriniar (28 years old) will join the French club Paris Saint-Germain next summer at the end of his sixth and final season with Inter.
Skriniar said in a message on his Instagram that he underwent surgery “in agreement with Inter” so that he might “return to the stadiums as soon as possible,” speaking of a “short recovery period.”
Skriniar has not played since entering the end of Inter’s match once morest Porto, Portugal, in the second leg of the Champions League final on March 14 (which ended in a goalless draw).
In his message, the Slovakian defender explained that he was injured during the first-leg match once morest the Portuguese team, which Inter won 1-0 on February 22.
This surgery reduces the chances of Skriniar wearing the Inter shirt once more this season, even if the latter qualified for the final of the main continental competition, which reached the semi-final round (Milan meets), before his expected departure to the Parisian capital.
