With seven tests spread over seven islands, the Canary Mountain Championship has an obvious regional flavor. This weekend, on the island of Gran Canaria, the Subida de Tejeda inaugurates a season in which cars and small boats will provide a generous show.
A new regional contest starts this weekend. The Canary Islands Mountaineering Championship begins its journey that will take it through seven islands, the first of which is Gran Canaria. The Subida de Tejeda, technical and with a particular charm, will be the stage in which the candidates for the title will start a campaign that will not stop until the final bars of 2023.
With just over 70 registered in the sum of Speed, Sport Regularity and Formula-Rallye, the XX Subida de Tejeda is loaded with attractions, among which it is worth mentioning the participation of Juan Carlos Quintana as ‘zero car’ at the controls of a Skoda Fabia R5. The CERT 2022 champion will be able to receive the affection of the fans who will surely meet on this track.
Among the boats, José Luis Rodríguez (Silver Car S3) and José Ricardo Rodríguez (Silver Car S1) will try to win in categories 3 and 2, respectively. José María Ponce is also in the first one, once more with the SEAT JTR 600.
Already among the Touring Cars, the regional champion, José Manuel González, will carry out his first test in Gran Canaria at the wheel of the Porsche 911 991.1. His objective will be none other than trying to score the maximum points for the CCM.
Drivers such as Miguel Cabral (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X), Iván Armas (Porsche 911 991.1) and Gustavo Bolaños (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII), among others, emerge as candidates for victory in this section.
The scrutineering of the XX Subida de Tejeda will be held on Friday, while the competition will start on Saturday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m., at which time the training session will begin. Subsequently, it will be the turn of the two official sleeves. The route of this test, one of the most technical of the entire season, is 4,930 m.
