Governor-elect Alberto Weretilneck affirmed last night that it is “impossible” to maintain dialogue and negotiations with the lof Lafken Winkul Mapu of Villa Mascardi because they do not recognize the State or its authorities.
“With this group it is impossible to negotiate and absolutely agree on something because by not recognizing each other it is impossible to enter into some kind of dialogue”, Weretilneck stated in an interview with TN.
He affirmed that the group from Villa Mascardi, which was evicted last October by order of the Federal Court of Bariloche, which keeps four women from the community in house arrest, He is the only one who has “problems” with the Province since there are more than 60 communities of native peoples with which there is a relationship.
“The Mapuche communities of the two provinces (Río Negro and Neuquén) relate to the State in a normal way, this It is a group that is anarcho, that has its mark in Chile and the Araucanía area, that does not recognize the Statethey do not recognize the national symbols and they do not recognize our Constitution”, affirmed Weretilneck who shared the interview with his Neuquén counterpart Rolando Figueroa.
The senator stressed that the National government evicted and disaffected the conflict zone of Villa Mascardi and when the journalists asked him if “Did you see the hand of the national government promoting?” Mapuche occupation, Weretilneck clarified: “No, This is an issue that comes from the time of the Macri government, there is a failed evictionat that time of Minister Bullrich, which ends in a homicide by the Prefecture that generates a very unfortunate event,” he said in reference to the crime of Rafael Nahuel and the first eviction attempt ordered by Judge Gustavo Villanueva in November 2017.
“Why did the national government give them air?” said one of the drivers and Weretilneck pondered once more that “this government ended up evicting them and today part of the group that was in prison,” he said, referring to the four women with house arrest.
The community is no longer on the property that the lof Lafken Winkul Mapu occupied in 2017 following the eviction and the national government maintains custody with federal forces to prevent them from settling in the area once more.
Weretilneck remarked that the provincial State maintains a joint work with more than 60 communities that “recognize the State as an authority, recognize our authorities, respect our Constitution, the national symbols and we even have bilingual schools.”
In the interview, nothing was directly mentioned regarding the dialogue table that remains in suspense and without a new call following the Human Rights Secretariat offered a way out of the conflict in February with the transfer of land in Lake Guillelmo, the maintenance of the sacred space in Villa Mascardi and the construction of houses in that area for the Mapuche people in general.
