Next weekend the time has come: On Saturday, April 29th, the Urfahranermarkt will open its doors once more. The construction of sales stands, fairground rides and marquees – there will be a total of 278 this year – is in full swing. A total of 7,500 tons of material are set up on 60,000 square meters.
“The market has always been an enormously important branch of the economy,” said City Councilor Doris Lang-Mayerhofer (VP) at a press conference this morning. There are enough innovations this year, for example the 80 meter high “Skyfall” is celebrating a comeback following five years of abstinence. In addition to the impressive view over Linz, visitors can experience the thrill of free fall here.
For the first time, there will be a stage in the exhibition hall for presentations and demonstrations by exhibitors. According to Lang-Mayerhofer, the offer ranges from window renovation to yoga for everyday life.
6.40 euros for half a beer
Landlord Patrick Stützner is optimistic. The construction work would go according to plan, but “each market is its own task”. In addition to the tried and tested catering, there will once more be a cocktail bar in the Donaualm this year, which will be run by bartending world champion Stefan Haneder.
The price increases do not stop at the Urfahraner Markt: Half a beer will cost EUR 6.40 this year (previous year EUR 5.80), half a liter of lemonade EUR 5.50, a schnitzel or grilled chicken with French fries EUR 17.20 , Bratwurst with sauerkraut and pastries 7.30 euros. “Actually, we should have asked for seven euros for the beer, but I didn’t dare,” says Stützner.
There is a program for young and old on all nine days. In addition to the traditional opening with free rides to the 57 fairground shops from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the popular fireworks display will also take place once more on May 5th. As in the previous year, there will also be a charity concert for the victims of the Ukraine war (May 3).
