In total, the couple from China allegedly wasted more than 120,000 liters of water during their stay to teach the owner a lesson following he refused to cancel their booking, reports South Morning China Post Monday.

The couple reportedly tried to cancel their stay, which had already been booked and paid for for three and a half weeks, upon realizing the villa was in an outer suburb of the capital, not downtown Seoul.

But instead of resolving the situation with Airbnb or keeping their reservation, the couple would rather have chosen to turn on all the lights, electronic devices, faucets and gas valves they might in the house.

According to a report by the Hong Kong media, the two travelers did not stay at the villa, preferring instead to return every 3-4 days to ensure their plan was still in execution.

It was ultimately the gas company that contacted the owner to advise him of a significant increase in his gas usage, fearing a leak.

In total, the passage of the two individuals would have cost US$1,570, the equivalent of more than $2,100, in water, gas and electricity bills.

While Airbnb covers its guests for property or property damage, among other things, the company does not cover utility bills, she told The Independant. The owner would have been invited to settle the situation directly with the travelers, but the latter had already left the country.
