While Muslims around the world await, today, Thursday, any news of the crescent of Eid al-Fitr, those who are passionate regarding astronomy are watching a phenomenon that is rarely repeated, which is the hybrid solar eclipse, and astronomy lovers in Australia were the first to watch a total eclipse for regarding a minute.
For those who do not know the hybrid solar eclipse, it is a phenomenon that occurs when the moon obscures several parts of the sun in different regions of the earth.
People will see a total eclipse of the sun, in some areas, where the moon will completely cover the face of the giant star, while people will see what is known as an “annular solar eclipse”, in other areas, as the moon will appear slightly less than the sun, leaving a ring of light around its imagination. .

Parts of Asia, Africa and Europe are in the dark
The last time this phenomenon was recorded in 2013, it occurs once every 10 years, and at that time parts of Asia, Africa and Europe were plunged into darkness due to the location of the moon in front of the sun.
Today, Thursday, the hybrid eclipse can be seen in parts of the southern hemisphere, especially in western Australia and southeast Asia, according to the British Daily Mail. And the American agency “NASA” provided a live broadcast to monitor the phenomenon.
And the agency said, “Agence France Presse,” that astronomers and amateurs of astronomy flocked Thursday to a remote area in Western Australia to watch a total eclipse of the sun that lasted 58 seconds.
And in Exmouth, on the northwest tip of Australia, astronomers parked their trailers, erected their telescopes and put on their goggles to watch the moon cover the sun before the total eclipse.
John Latanzio of the Australian Astronomical Society said: “A lot of people have become addicted to this strange, seemingly otherworldly moment.”
“They have become eclipse hunters who travel around the world to renew the experience,” he added.
At 11:29 local time (01:29 GMT), darkness fell into the middle of the day, bringing with it an unusual calm, before the sun reappeared fifty-eight seconds later and flooded the Australian Outback.
Visibility of the total eclipse was also possible in West Papua and East Timor.
At the other end of Australia, in Sydney, the eclipse was only partial, with the moon obscuring less than 20% of the sun’s disk.
In particular, the eclipse allowed scientists to observe the solar corona, which is usually hidden by rays of light.
The scientist Albert Einstein developed his theory of the bending of light rays while following a similar eclipse.
Scrutiny of the crescent of the mushroom
Returning to the atmosphere of the investigation of the crescent of Eid al-Fitr, which Muslims all over the world are looking forward to, the Supreme Court called on all Muslims in all parts of Saudi Arabia to investigate the sighting of the crescent of the month of Shawwal this evening, Thursday, the 29th of Ramadan 1444 AH. And the court appealed to those who see it with the naked eye, or through binoculars, to inform the nearest court to it, and to record its testimony to it, or to contact the nearest center; To help him get to the nearest court.
The Supreme Court also expressed its hope that those who have the ability to see interest in this matter, join the committees formed in the regions for this purpose, and calculate the reward for participation; Because it is of cooperation in righteousness and piety, and benefit to all Muslims.
This call came following the International Astronomy Center confirmed a few days ago that seeing the crescent Thursday is not possible with the naked eye from anywhere in the Arab and Islamic worlds, and therefore Saturday 22 is the first day of Eid al-Fitr, which sparked a state of controversy that prompted some astronomers to respond with evidence of the birth of the crescent. Tonight, while some have said that seeing it may be impossible tonight.
