Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov invited a number of foreign ministers to attend ministerial meetings of the UN Security Council on April 24-25. Among them is the head of the US State Department, Anthony Blinken. This was announced by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Pankin.

“I don’t know if it will be (the meeting between Lavrov and Blinken.— “uh”). I know that the minister has invited the heads of foreign affairs departments, the State Department and others to take part in the meetings at which he will chair,” TASS quotes Pankin as saying.

At the same time, the diplomat indicated that he did not know the final list of participants in the UN Security Council meeting. “I don’t know what the answer was, who will come and who won’t. If the Secretary of State arrives, I don’t know if contact will be made then (with Sergei Lavrov.— “uh”),” he added.

As Mr. Pankin clarified, the last meeting between Sergey Lavrov and Anthony Blinken took place on the sidelines of the G20 ministerial meeting in India. According to him, the contact was “episodic” and was not planned in advance.

From April 1, Russia will chair the UN Security Council. The post of chairmanship passed to the country for a month. She replaced Mozambique.
