Greetings, hungry adventurer! In this collection Dungeons & Dragons – Heroes’ Feast, you will find a multitude of recipes from different D&D tribes: cuisine of humans, elves, dwarves and halflings. No doubt you will find them to your liking!

I’ve played tabletop RPGs before, but never D&D. However, for anyone who loves fantasy, we travel on familiar ground with the dwarves, the elves… and the evocation of the taverns whets our appetite.

Finally having my new kitchen, I wanted to share an enlightened opinion, and therefore took the time to test several recipes (5 for the moment).

Each one was very successful, and made me want to do it once more!

But first, the book Dungeons & Dragons – The Feast of Heroes is very beautiful and puts perfectly in the atmosphere of the adventure game. The photos are very neat, very aesthetic, and the illustrations are magnificent.

The recipes are very varied, separated according to the peoples, with each time a long introduction full of information on their specificities and their relationship to food, followed by the summary.

You will find very refined and healthier food among the elves, of course. For my part, I am rather team Nains with their very convivial and family dishes.

Each dish has its own introductionmentioning its origin, anecdotes, any differences with the original dishes (Halfelin meat is not yet available in the supermarket)…

Some dishes from this cookbook Dungeons & Dragons – Heroes’ Feast are very similar to those of our regions (like the Dwarf galettes which are furiously reminiscent of naan breads), others are very original (the mushroom infusion, for example, which I have not tested).

Cooking times can be quite long (the honey ham with pineapple sauce, for example, which looks like a killer, but whose cooking time – around 4 hours – put me off a bit).

The 5 dishes that I prepared did not present any difficulty, it is not necessary to be a fine cook to come out with flying colors and impress your guests or your family.

So I did, in order;

  • the Pain Elfe (and I admit having doubled the garnish, for more indulgence, which a Dwarf would no doubt have done. The result was quite convincing!);
  • THE Halfling Oatmeal Sweet Delights (very greedy, a pure delight indeed);
  • THE Sausages & Crushed Potatoes (dwarves), quick to prepare, simple and tasty,
  • THE Snacks from Delzoun (which don’t look like Swedish meatballs, contrary to what I thought, and whose sauce is really delicious!)

Just note that the recipe has two small hiccups; we are talking regarding mixing “the eggs” when the list of ingredients only has one (and one is enough so everything is fine), and the four-spice mixture present in the list of ingredients is not in the recipe. It’s more boring because precisely that’s what gives a lot of flavor to the dish. I added them to the sauce at the end of cooking, realizing the lack, and it was just a treat!), which I accompanied with the famous ones;

  • Dwarf Cakes (excellent).

In conclusion, this book is a real gold mine for cooks looking for something newa good setting for your D&D games or for a game night with friends, and a real good recipe book for the whole family!

A real culinary favorite for me!
