All regions of mainland France have now emerged from the seasonal flu epidemic, which is particularly long this year, but which continues overseas in Guadeloupe and Martinique, the public health agency summarized on Wednesday.
“Influenza activity (is) down in almost all regions”, indicates Public Health France in a weekly report.
Guadeloupe and Martinique still affected
The only metropolitan region to still be hit by the epidemic last week, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté has now left this status. However, the situation has not quite returned to normal there, as in the majority of the territory, the largest of the regions still being in the “post-epidemic” phase. Overseas, Guadeloupe and Martinique are, moreover, still affected by the epidemic.
The seasonal flu epidemic started early this season, and therefore lasted a particularly long time. Although it did not reach the peaks of the worst years, it added to those of Covid-19 and, in infants, bronchiolitis. It was particularly prolonged due to the rise at the start of 2023 of another strain of the virus, called type B.
