Apple highlights “journey to 2030” in new environmental report

on the eve of Earth’s Day (April 22), to Apple released the 2023 edition of its Environmental Progress Report [PDF], in which he details the advances in terms of sustainability achieved so far. Environmental progress in general and initiatives in the same direction were also highlighted, such as the reduction of the company’s carbon footprint in 45% since 2015.

Last year alone, the company’s mitigation actions prevented the issuance of 28 million tons of carbon. Many of Maçã’s goals, however, involve its suppliers and other people involved in its production chain, such as the objective of decarbonizing the stages of production lines. Therefore, it was said that Apple is on a “journey to 2030”, when these goals should reach more advanced stages.

The report is quite detailed and highlights several points regarding Apple’s sustainability. The company, for example, has already achieved carbon neutrality in corporate activities, in addition to using more recycled materials in its products, reducing the use of plastic in packaging and supporting environmental projects.

Individual environmental reports were also released for the products — available on the company’s environmental page — which contain data on how each device contributes to Apple’s advances. In the case of the MacBook Air (M2), for example, 38% of emissions were reduced, as 40% of the components used in the device are recycled.

Another document released was People and Environment in the Supply Chain [PDF]. In it, the company emphasizes its commitment to the well-being of those who are part of all stages of Apple’s production and activity, in accordance with human rights and environmental standards.

Also highlighted was the company’s support for various environmental projects and initiatives, such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and others in China and Latin America. O Apple Trade In was remembered as important for environmental efforts, considering that it prevents the incorrect disposal of devices and enables the reuse of components; the program even gained a new page highlighting its environmental impact.

In the context of Earth Day celebrations, there will also be sessions of the Today at Apple entitled “Protect Our Planet Series”. They will include the participation of the indigenous artist Thomas Karmelo Amayain addition to activities aimed at children, using the Apple Pencil and iPads to produce comic books with environmental themes, as well as raising awareness regarding recycling.

Already App Storea collection will highlight, on 4/22, sustainable fashion apps, while another called “The Future Is Up to Us”in the app Apple TV, will show how people are fighting climate change with different actions. The space will be curated by Scott Z. Burnsseries creator “Extrapolations — An Unsettling Future”which also addresses the environmental theme.

There will also be special content related to climate change in the Apple News, with a collection regarding natural wealth and communities fighting for a greener world. Likewise, in Apple Musicstarting on 4/21, we will have content made for Earth Day, including a Mixtape for Planet Earth curated by Ben Harper.

We also have the collection “Revitalizing Our Home”no Apple Podcastswith episodes including diverse views on climate change, as well as in the app Books (Books). O Maps (Maps)in turn, will help discover more sustainable locations and publicize the conservation work of the Smithsonian.

no longer Fitness+a new meditation session will be released that reflects the resilience of the planet in the face of new challenges, in addition to a new episode of Time to run (Time to Run). Furthermore, as in previous years, users of the Apple Watch who complete at least a 30-minute exercise on 4/22 will receive a special Earth Day Challenge badge.
