The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry summoned its ambassador to Belarus Igor Kizim for consultations. The decision was made due to a meeting between President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin. This was reported by the press service of the department.

“The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry condemns Alexander Lukashenko’s meeting on April 18 in Minsk with Denis Pushilin… In this regard, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry decided to call the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus Igor Kizim for consultations,” the statement says.

The day before, talks between Alexander Lukashenko and Denis Pushilin were held in Minsk. At them, Mr. Lukashenko offered assistance in restoring agriculture and industrial enterprises of the DPR. In March, Denis Pushilin said that the DPR authorities were considering options for attracting investment to the region, including from Belarus.

Note that Belarus has not yet recognized the accession of new regions to Russia, including the DPR. In July 2022, Alexander Lukashenko said that Minsk was actually cooperating with the DPR and LPR, and there was no need for a separate recognition.
