AADE: “Siege” on 80,000 debtors

Those who do not settle their debts will face confiscation of bank accounts, assets and auctions

The IRS is expected to start narrowly “marking” approximately 80,000 debtors, with constant harassment through telephone communication and sending e-mails. These are “debtors” with “red” debts to the Tax Office, for which no attempt was made to settle them, nor to join any of the regulations in force.

In the context of strengthening citizens’ tax compliance – which is a central priority, according to this year’s business plan of AADE – the debtors in question will be duly informed regarding their debts, either electronically or by phone.

If they fail to comply or ignore the regulations, they will face confiscation of bank accounts, income, assets and auctions. In 2022, compulsory collection measures were imposed in 818,622 cases, while previously the tax authorities contacted 824,582 taxpayers who showed an overdue debt for the first time.

Danger

It is noted that the AADE is also launching a barrage of harassment to debtors who have lost the 120-installment arrangement and can rejoin it, however to date they have not done so, reminding them that they are at risk of confiscations and auctions in case they ignore the updates of the Independent Authority.

At the same time, the AADE is proceeding with the provision of new electronic services such as: the granting of TINs to all minors, the development of an application for the ENFIA certificates that are issued by handwritten process (ENFIA certificates following verification), the quarterly update of the heirs of the deceased in terms of obligations them, the extension of the application for digital submission of gift/parental benefit tax declarations for amending declarations, the extension of application for digital submission of inheritance tax declarations for years prior to 2022, etc.

On the front of tax evasion and smuggling, AADE plans to carry out 179,000 tax and customs checks and send 25,000 clearance notices with extra taxes. At the same time, the new electronic tools will be used, such as “ELEGCHOSLive”, which from next month will enable tax auditors to carry out on-the-spot checks with a tablet, to have access to the profile of the professional or the business, to proceed on-site and with rapid procedures in data intersections and to issue an on-site note with the results of the control.
