Volkswagen’s self-driving electric van, ID.Buzz, began testing in the German city of Hannover as part of a ride-sharing service that dispenses with a human driver. The car however still offers the space for a real driver.

The electric vehicle is being used by the Moia Mobility platform, and should replace Pluto in service by 2025 —the old model, from 2006, which has a range of 300 km per charge in its e-Crfollowing model. The company currently operates in the cities of Hannover and Hamburg with 565 of these cars.

Moia says that, in the next few years, it will be able to expand autonomous crowding services to another 15 cities in Germany. The idea is to prove the viability of the model, according to Christian Buhlmann, head of communications for Volkswagen’s commercial vehicle area.

In Brazil, there is no information on when the vehicle should arrive, but it is expected, in any case, that the car may be the most expensive of the company. Currently with limited lots in Hannover, the vehicle leaves by €65,000 — just over R$350,000. The five-seat car promises a range of 400 km per charge, a 201 horsepower electric motor mounted on the rear axle, and three driving modes: Eco, Comfort and Sport and up to 2205 liters of luggage capacity.
