“We are afraid that this is not good news,” said union representative Koen Roosen on Tuesday evening.
The convocation letter does not specify the intentions of the management. “We expect this to be important news, at Colruyt it is not the practice to call union secretaries for ‘ordinary’ news”, specifies the ACV member. “It’s no secret that DreamLand hasn’t been doing very well lately.”
According to the newspaper L’Echo, rumors relating to the sale of signs would be on the agenda. But closing branches, for example, is also part of the contingencies.
DreamLand is a chain of toy stores with, according to the website, 48 branches in Belgium while Dreambaby has around thirty stores. Together, the two chain stores employ a thousand people, according to Koen Roosen.
DreamLand and Dreambaby are considered within the Colruyt Group as a technical business unit and invitations for a works council always have both brands in the title. But it is possible that the management’s announcement concerns only one of the two channels, further specifies the trade unionist.
