In the second half of last year, workers’ incomes increased overall, and one out of five workers earned more than 4 million won per month.

According to the ‘Regional Employment Survey in the Second Half of 2022 – Characteristics of Employed Persons by Industry and Occupation’ announced by the National Statistical Office on the 18th, 22.1% of the total (21,684,000 people) were wage earners with an average monthly wage of 4 million won or more in the second half of last year (as of October). occupied This is an increase of 2.9% compared to the same period last year.

On the other hand, the share of wage earners who receive relatively low wages has decreased. The percentage of wage earners earning less than 2 million won per month was 23.3%, the lowest ever. By sector, the share of workers earning less than 1 million won was 9.1%, and those earning less than 1 million to 2 million won were 14.2%, down 0.9 percentage points and 4.4 percentage points from the previous year, respectively.

This figure includes all regular, temporary and daily workers.

By occupational category, 27.1% of simple labor workers received a monthly wage of less than 1 million won. Among the managers, no one received less than 1 million won, and 81.0% received 4 million won or more.

As for the number of employed by occupational subcategory, management-related clerks accounted for the highest number of 2,328,000 (8.2%). It was followed by store sales workers with 1.639 million (5.8%) and crop growers with 1.373 million (4.8%).

The increase was the largest for administrative clerks (81,000) and cooks (72,000). The number of delivery workers was 450,000, which was the highest ever, as in the first half of this year.

On the other hand, the number of store sales workers decreased the most by 47,000. The number of secretaries and office assistants and sales workers also decreased by 36,000 and 34,000, respectively.

As for the number of employed by industry, restaurants and bars had the highest number of 2,085,000 (7.3%). The increase in the number of employed was also the largest at 114,000.

It is analyzed that the demand for manpower in the face-to-face service industry, including pubs, has increased as daily life has been restored with the end of the Corona 19 crisis.

After restaurants and bars, the number of employed increased significantly in the order of health (72,000), public administration, defense and social security administration (58,000).
