In the USA, a psychology professor began a class with an extremely strange request for his students. In a special activity, he asked them to write a particular text. “Today was the last day of your life, write your obituary”, requested this teacher and generated a stir on social networks. As a result of the fact, the educational institution took action.
The news was disclosed by the professor himself, called Jeffrey Keenewho is 63 years old and decided, through his Facebook profile, to tell the reasons that led him to think regarding this type of task for his students, which he raised by the latent possibility of an armed person entering the establishment located in Orlando, Florida. And it is that, in the United States, unfortunately these events are not isolated.
In this sense, he specified that he asked his students to write their impressions of this kind of drill and justify it with the current context of the country, which is immersed in violent practices within educational establishments. Finally, he said that the objective of the exercise was to imagine “his postmortem biography”.
From the moment of its publication, the teacher felt the repudiation of all his followers and the complaints reached the ears of the boys’ parents and the school authorities, who internalized themselves on the subject and decided, together, an exemplary sanction. : dismiss him on the grounds that he exercised an “inappropriate duty” to the students.
After this emphatic decision, the man decided to go out and talk to the media and give his version of what happened. Before them he assured that he is in shock following being fired. “It was not to scare them or make them think they were going to die, but to help them understand what is important in their lives”, indicated in dialogue with the chain NBC.
In addition, he maintained that the activity was framed in the current situation of the world where violent acts take place more and more: “I was talking to the students regarding the world they live in, regarding guns and shooters”.
After the dismissal, the representatives of the school and teachers who shared time with him decided not to express themselves regarding it in an environment that remained very hermetic, without giving more impact to this very particular moment that was lived in the Florida area.
This sensitive issue brings up past experiences that were traumatic for a nation that has not yet debated fundamental policies to be able to eradicate the use of weapons.
In recent times, the United States deepened its crisis due to two massacres: one at the Sandy Hook school, where 20 children died in 2012, and the second in Uvalde, Texas, where in 2022, 19 children and two teachers were murdered.
