Launched from the other end of the field, Jordan Loyd’s last prayer flew out of the circle, much to Ekinox’s delight. Stunning in the second period, Bourg-en-Bresse offered the scalp of Monaco, Sunday followingnoon (90-88) and put an end to the series of six consecutive victories of the leader of Betclic Élite. A result that should spice up the reunion between the two teams, from Friday in Saint-Chamond in the quarter-finals of the Leaders Cup.

Less than 48 hours following a success in the Euroleague over Asvel (87-75), Monaco held the helm for a long time in this trip to Bressan country. Without Mike James or Donatas Motiejunas (spared), Sasa Obradovic’s players broke away thanks to Matthew Strazel (11 points) and opposing ball losses. In six minutes, the JL had already lost six balls, the last converted into a dunk by Jaron Blossomgame (11-17, 6th).

A first bloody entry from Elie Okobo pushed Bourg-en-Bresse back nine lengths at the start of the second quarter (24-33, 11th), but Jordan Floyd (18 points including 16 before the break, 5 assists) allowed the Burgiens to stay in contact (54-60, 20th) when it was time to return to the locker room following an ultra-offensive first half (68% shooting success for Bourg, 71% for Monaco).

Monaco had the match point

The break cut the Monegasque wings, out of fuel at three points (4 out of 18), and Bourg took advantage of it in a few minutes. James Palmer Jr hit the mark behind the arc to bring his team back to possession, before Pierre Pelos gave La Jeu the lead for the first time in the game, also with a long-range arrow (70-68, 27th).

But Sasa Obradovic’s team found breath in defense like the two counterattacks inflicted by Alpha Diallo on Jordan Floyd. Ekinox watched with concern Donta Hall snatch an offensive rebound passed to Jordan Loyd, alone at three points, to bring the Roca Team back to a short length.

Elie Okobo (16 points, 6 assists, 4 steals) then found himself with the winning ball in his hands, 22 seconds from the buzzer, but the international point guard did not find a fault in the defense following a series of dribbles and his risky pass towards Jaron Blossomgame resulted in a decisive interception by Isiaha Mike, the top scorer of the day for the JL (20 points). Bourg-en-Bresse goes back to sixth place, one length from the top 4.
