Russia officially accuses the Czech Republic of having delivered to Ukraine combat tanks, type T-72B, purchased by Morocco from Belarus and transferred to Prague under a modernization contract, report Russian media.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Monday (April 17) that the kingdom has indeed signed a contract with the Czech company Excalibur Army spol.s ro for the modernization of a batch of 130 tanks. T-72B acquired in the years 1999-2001 from the Republic of Belarus. The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) received 56 tanks but 74 units were transferred to Ukraine, adds the same source.
“Moroccans have been presented with a fait accompli. And at the same time they (the Czechs) made them guilty before the Belarusians for not fulfilling the obligation stipulated by the terms of the purchase contract not to transfer the tanks to third countries without the permission of the supplier Lamented Maria Zakharova. This case shows that “Prague does not hesitate to violate the fundamental norms of international law governing the arms trade and to seize the property of others”, she stressed in statements to the press.
As a reminder, Morocco has already denied sending heavy weapons to Ukraine. An announcement made on February 28 in Rabat by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, during a press briefing with the Austrian Federal Deputy Minister for European and International Affairs, Peter Launsky.
“Morocco is not a stakeholder in this armed conflict, has not taken part in it and will not take part in it in any way,” insisted the head of diplomacy. “Nevertheless, Morocco considers that this issue affects international peace and security and has an economic and social impact,” Bourita said.
International media had reported, a few weeks earlier, the sending by Morocco to Ukraine of regarding twenty T-72B combat tanks, which were going through an update in the Czech Republic.
