Austrian Horvath KTM rider Michael Sandner made his MXGP debut at Pietramurata last weekend. With P9 in qualifying for the wildcard pilots, he qualified to take part in the World Championship races. He finished the qualifying race on Saturday in 20th place and showed that he has the potential to also score points in MXGP.
In the first race on Sunday, the 24-year-old just missed out on the points in P21. The Austrian was P18 at the start of heat two before crashing on lap 3 on a long downhill triple and sustaining serious injuries. Sandner was treated by the medical crew on the route. The accident site was secured with a Red Cross flag, and Sander was transported from the track to the medical center and then to the hospital
The worst are the fractures of cervical vertebrae C1 and thoracic vertebrae T3, which had to be surgically stabilized immediately. He also suffered fractures in the shoulder area, hip and several ribs.
The Austrian is being treated in intensive care and is in a stable condition. On behalf of all SPEEDWEEK.com readers, we wish you a full and speedy recovery!
