The Acting Principal of Chittagong Port Women’s College, Selina Akhter Shelley, has been temporarily suspended for allegedly posting on Facebook regarding the holy Ramzan in Chittagong.

According to the order of the port authority, Selina Akhter Shelley posted on Facebook mocking the Arabic pronunciation of the holy month of Ramadan, ‘Ramadan’. Many people reacted strongly on social media in the comments of that post. The posts hurt religious sentiments and created anger and resentment among the Muslim community. The law and order situation has deteriorated in the port area with processions and gatherings and communal incitement has put the government in an unstable and embarrassing situation.

The order further states, ‘These proceedings are criminal offenses punishable under Sections 28 and 31 of the Digital Security Act-2018; A flagrant violation of Rule 6 Decimal 2 and Rule 10 of the Use of Social Media Rules-2019 and flagrant misconduct and punishable offense under Section 39(b) of the Employment Regulations-1991.
