The MPN lost in Añelo and Banderet will be the new mayor of the main city of Vaca Muerta

Fernando Banderet will be the new mayor of Añelo, the head town of the Vaca Muerta developments, following beating the MPN candidate -backed by the Private Oil Workers union- Adriana Pezuk in the elections. The man who represented the space led by Rolando Figueroa, Comunidad, won with more than 45% of the votes.

The 2,029 votes that Banderet garnered were enough to stay with the position that Miltón Morales will leave -following a single period-, who first was left out of the pro-government armed forces and then went over to the opposition side and supported Figueroa’s armed forces.

The elections closed at 6:00 p.m. and official data showed that almost 68% of the register participated. With 100% of the tables scrutinizeds Pezuk was second with 1,804 votes (40.81%)while Banderet’s votes represented 45.89% of the total.

The political scene in the main oil city of Neuquén was strongly polarized, and the union that leads Marcelo Rucci played a central role in putting together the structure of the candidate, and current president of the Deliberative Council of the city. The winning space had the support of the construction union, Uocra.

Despite being the witness city of the exponential growth of the millionaire developments of Vaca MuertaAñelo faces a strong challenge in terms of infrastructure works, public services and housing.

Issues that played a strong role in the campaign and where Banderet stood up with the promise of a historical reparation law to carry out works, the expansion of the ejido and the recategorization to a first class municipality.
