The closure of the Olymel plant in Vallée-Jonction continues to have repercussions in the Beauce region, in Chaudière-Appalaches. Pork producers will have to reduce their production.

The Chaudière-Appalaches region represents 32% of pork production in the province.
“As a pork producer in Beauce, given that our slaughterhouse is in Vallée-Jonction, we are in a state of shock following this announcement. We had heard that big decisions were going to be made, but ultimately it is our factory that will have to be closed, ”says Simon Breton, pork producer, to TVA Nouvelles.
Reducing production or shutting down is a choice that producers will be faced with following the announcement concerning the Olymel plant. In his 28-year career, this is the biggest challenge faced by Mr. Boivin.
“Over the years, we had to go through various challenges. Among others, environmental challenges, the strike at Vallée-Jonction, COVID problems which increased our production costs, border closures. We are very solicited by the challenges”, he testifies.
Economic players in the region will meet on Monday. A press briefing will be announced.
