April 16 (Archyde.com) – Seven people, including a minor, were killed and one wounded in an attack by gunmen on Saturday at a beach resort in central Mexico, one of the country’s hardest hit by violence, local authorities informed.
The incident occurred in the city of Cortazar, in the state of Guanajuato, where criminal groups are fighting for control of drug trafficking routes and other crimes such as fuel theft and kidnapping.
Among the deceased are three women, three men and a child under 7 years of age, while the seriously injured person was transferred to receive medical attention.
A video posted on social media showed several bodies lying on the ground as men, women and children ran screaming.
“Armed subjects arrived at the scene at around 4:30 p.m. this Saturday to carry out the attack,” said a statement from the Cortazar Security Secretary. “After the fact, they fled but not before causing damage to the spa shop and taking the security cameras as well as the monitor,” he added.
The security forces and the Army deployed an operation supported by a helicopter in search of the criminals.
In mid-March, 10 people were killed in an armed attack at a bar in the Apaseo El Grande municipality, also in Guanajuato.
