AMG Packaging has officially launched the construction of its new factory in Rhamna. This new unit, whose work kicked off on Wednesday April 12 in the presence of Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, will be specialized in the production of agricultural and agri-food packaging. It is indeed an investment of 266 million dirhams which will eventually generate 170 direct and indirect jobs. “The AMG Packaging company project is a concrete example of the ambitious industrial policy that we are conducting in Morocco to strengthen national industrial sovereignty in general and that of the agro-food sector in particular and is conveniently part of the project that we have launched with operators in the agro-industry and supplier sectors to encourage local sourcing,” explains Ryad Mezzour.
And to continue: “Cardboard paper packaging represents a significant share of imports of purchases of manufactured inputs for the agri-food sector with an estimated amount of 1.35 billion dirhams, which induces a source of investment and opportunities indisputable in this ever-changing market”. In detail, this new factory will participate in the substitution of imports of cardboard agri-food packaging. It will also contribute to the transfer of know-how and technologies to Morocco. The industrial unit will in fact adopt technologies that respect the environment, used by the Group in its factories in Europe.
Furthermore, the project constitutes an important milestone in the Group’s expansion plans, since it will enable it to support its growth and improve its international positioning. It should be noted that AMG Packaging, created in 2017, is a subsidiary of the Italian group Pro-Gest, which is one of the main European players in the vertically integrated production of cardboard and packaging for the agricultural and agro-industrial.
The Pro-Gest holding company, founded in 1973, today has nearly 1,400 employees spread over 28 production plants operating in 7 Italian regions. It ended 2021 with revenue of 747 million euros, up around 60% compared to 2020. The Group’s actions in terms of investment, innovation and sustainable development have made it possible to position itself today among the leaders of this industry at European level.
