Composed of a singer and a Turkish singer and four Dutch musicians, Altin Gün is back with a fifth album. In “Aşk”, the group from Amsterdam continues its reinterpretation of Turkish folk tunes, using a traditional instrument, the saz, a long-necked lute. While bringing his own compositions, between funk, reggae, rock and ternary rhythms emblematic of the East.

Inspired by the psychedelic folk rock movement of the 1960s and 1970s in Europe, which spread to the Middle East, Altin Gün dusted off what their predecessors were already doing. Like the famous Selda Bağcan, singer-guitarist and 74-year-old Turkish activist who has often been censored or imprisoned for her positions during her career.

No open political fight at Altin Gün, but a fight for love. The love with a capital A that we find throughout this new opus “Aşk”, but also the love for their native land: Turkey.
Recorded before the terrible earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6, “Aşk” is a skilful blend of tradition and modernity. Nothing new, some would say. But it is the symbol that must be understood: the clash of cultures and then, their respective love.
And as the collective says so well on its lyrics “Let’s have fun, in this world of three days, live the life”. A great lesson from the Anatolian rock band.
