The official list of the 46 communes that will be part of the Streets without Violence Plan has been released by the Government, which aims to address the security crisis in the country. The metropolitan presidential delegate, Constanza Martinez, announced 22 communes in the region that would be included in the list, but the Executive later informed all municipalities that would be protected by the Plan Calles sin Violencia, including all regional capitals.
The plan has four axes, the first being criminal prosecution to ensure that none of these cases remain in impunity by reinforcing the work of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Investigative Police and also the Carabineros. In addition, preventive patrolling and control will be reinforced in those 22 communes where the number of homicides has been determined through objective criteria, and they are also regional capitals. The Metropolitan Region will implement this plan regionally, as the prosecution of crime does not admit communal borders.
