For the first time in history, the two biggest clubs in the country –River Plate and Boca Juniors- have women coaches in their main women’s soccer squads. The particularity? Both are born in the province of Córdoba. Nothing is a casuality. Daniela Díaz in the ‘Millionaires’ and Florencia Quiñones in the ‘Gladiadoras’, are the faithful reflection of a region that, despite the difficulties, was a pioneer in the discipline.
In the last hours, Quiñones, born in the town of Oncativo 36 years ago, took office in Boca in the midst of a commotion, since her arrival occurred following the complaint once morest Jorge Martínez, former DT, for alleged sexual abuse was known. .
DT had announced his retirement as a footballer in 2021, following a successful career, with three titles in Boca, and following having won two championships with San Lorenzo, three with Barcelona in Spain and being a historic player for the National Team. Prior to the call from the Boca Football Council, she was working in the youth teams of the Argentine National Team with the U-15 and U-17 teams. It will be her first experience leading a semi-professional team and she will debut today once morest El Porvenir.
For her part, Daniela Díaz has been at River for more than a year and has even already won a title: the 2022 Federal Cup. She is the most representative female DT in Argentina. The player who emerged from Racing de Nueva Italia, she made history in the ‘Millionaires’ and, at the time of her, also in Belgrano since she reached two promotions and achieved several records.
Celebration and motivation. The situation of Quiñones and Díaz in national soccer generates in the Córdoba area a confirmation of the work carried out for many years by the pioneering soccer players and also by the many techniques that are in the province working with the aim of opening the doors to the new generations .
“Córdoba has always been a pioneer in women’s football. Having references like Flor and Dani in the technical direction of two great teams makes us see our dreams ever closer and we understand that working and studying can go far. That they are from Córdoba is a privilege and a source of pride for us who follow the same path. In addition, they are an example of the fight occupying spaces that should always be occupied by women”, considered Antonella Internicola, coach of the Belgrano U-16 and U-19 women.
Along the same lines, Delfina Leal, DT of Estudiantes de Río Cuarto and a reference at the provincial level of the discipline, in dialogue with PROFILE CÓRDOBA, expressed: “It is celebrated that two clubs as important as Boca and River bet on technical directors from the interior. This opens doors for our Córdoba, which is an inexhaustible pool of talent”.
‘Delfi’ also added: “Inland football has something special in its essence. Perhaps the fight ‘to be seen’ or ‘to get to’, makes that particularity noticeable in the DNA of the players. In history there are great references who were encouraged and worked so that today Córdoba is a springboard to the dreams of so many girls who want to become professional players. It is no coincidence what happens with Belgrano, who was accompanied by the hand of Dani Díaz. This marked a before and following. Talleres also wants to be a protagonist. For this reason, all of us who experience women’s football on a daily basis are encouraged to at least consider the possibility”.
The tournament is led by UAI Urquiza, who will visit Belgrano tomorrow at the Gigante de Alberdi.
