Vienna (OTS) – The Urban Renewal Department (GB*) invites you to the “Livable Vienna” series of events and presents innovative housing and urban renewal projects in six districts during guided walks from April to October. Interested parties are invited to explore new housing projects, neighborhood initiatives and urban districts together with the GB* team and knowledgeable experts.
“We create affordable living space with the highest quality of life for the people of Vienna. Under the motto ‘Livable Vienna’, the experts from the Urban Renewal Area Management now guide you through exciting housing projects. The GB* offers a wide range and provides information regarding the latest news. This creates a strong neighborhood in which the residents can help shape their neighborhood,” says Deputy Mayor and City Councilor Kathrin Gaál.
It all starts on April 25, 2023 with a tour of the Wientalterrassen residential project in Penzing under the motto “Livable Vienna”.
Innovative, forward-looking residential projects are being created at many locations in Vienna. At the same time, historic residential buildings are being renovated and streets, squares and house facades are being redesigned to make them climate-friendly. This not only creates new, affordable living space, it also creates many offers and improvements for the whole neighborhood. In the GB* series of events “Livable Vienna”, selected projects in six districts are scrutinized and exclusive insights are granted – with a focus on topics such as “climate-friendly cities” and energy. The tours are accompanied by various experts from the City of Vienna – such as wohnfonds_wien and Hauskunft, as well as architects, property developers and district representatives.
Prelude: Wientalterrassen Penzing
A guided tour to the “Wientalterrassen” in Penzing marks the start of “Livable Vienna”. Here in the area around Käthe-Dorsch-Gasse in the 14th district, a new urban quarter with around 400 subsidized and 100 privately financed apartments, a generation center and educational institutions in a convenient traffic location was created on two building sites. The new construction project “Wientalterrassen” with 196 rental apartments subsidized by the City of Vienna and 99 smaller smart apartments especially for single parents is also a prime example of sustainability in practice when building and operating with renewable energy sources. Green courtyards and terraces help reduce overheating in summer.
