Drama in Tunisia. Footballer Nizar Issaoui died on Thursday. The latter died of third-degree burns suffered, following setting himself on fire last Monday. An action he had undertaken to protest once morest police abuse. It was his brother who announced the news to l’AFP. The 35-year-old player was accused of terrorism for a neighborhood dispute in the Kairouan region.
Issaoui was without a club following playing for several teams in the Tunisian championship. Before taking action, he had left a message on Facebook claiming to have decided himself his “death by fire”. “I have no more energy, let the police state know that the sentence will be carried out today”. According to Tunisian media, following the announcement of his death on Thursday evening, clashes took place in the locality of Haffouz between young demonstrators and police officers.
