Renowned French fashion house Saint Laurent is preparing to enter the world of filmmaking following years of Hollywood stars appeared on the red carpets in Cannes and elsewhere wearing creations from the legendary fashion house.
The Saint Laurent Productions division will be opened by the fashion house and led by the company’s creative director, Anthony Vaccarello. This step is also followed by directors and actors who have been part of glitzy fashion shows for a long time.
And now Saint Laurent’s new film production division will launch in Cannes with its first production, Pedro Almodóvar’s Strange Way of Life. The short film tells the story of Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal as two middle-aged gunslingers who meet once more following a 25-year separation.
The luxury brand’s film production arm has two projects with David Cronenberg and Paolo Sorrentino working on it. “The unique and radical vision that these directors bring to cinema has made me the person I am today,” Vaccarello said in a statement.
A Cannes favorite, Canadian director Cronenberg recently premiered his latest film, Crimes of the Future. The Italian director Sorrentino also made his debut at the Cannes Festival with a group of films, including The Hand of God in 2021, according to the website. Hollywood Reporter.
The late French designer Yves Saint Laurent launched and ran the luxury fashion house with his partner, Pierre Bergé. And upcoming films from Saint Laurent Productions will feature Vaccarello’s costumes for his fashion house.
“I want to work with and make room for all the great cinematic talents who have inspired me over the years,” Vaccarello added.
