Berlin: Germany has approved the transfer of Soviet-era warplanes it had given to Poland to Ukraine. Germany has agreed to supply five MiG-29 fighter jets. Germany sold these fighter jets to Poland in 2003. But according to the agreement, if Poland wants to transfer these planes to another country, it needs Germany’s permission.
Ukraine has long been asking Poland to provide planes. Poland had earlier pressured Germany to hand over battle tanks to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz gave the green light to supply 18 of its Leopard tanks to Ukraine following the US announced that it would supply 31 of its Abrams tanks to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Annalina Bierbock said China should ask Russia to end the war in Ukraine and that no other country can have more influence over Russia than China. Her response came during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang in Beijing. Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu arrives in Russia on Sunday for a four-day visit.
At the same time, the British Ministry of Defense stated that the Ukrainian army will have to withdraw from parts of the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, where fighting continues to intensify. The Ministry stated that although the Russian advance is getting stronger here, the resistance of Ukraine continues in the western areas.
