The President of Russia has signed a law that has been approved by the Federation Council and adopted by the State Duma. This law states that several regions of the country will now officially be living in the capital. The document announcing this was released on April 14th and includes a list of regions that will follow the same time zone as Moscow. This list includes areas such as LNR, DNR, Zaporozhye, and the Kherson region, which were acquired during conflicts in Ukraine. Other regions on the list include Tatarstan, Dagestan, Crimea, Leningrad, Moscow, and St. Petersburg. There are over 50 regions on this list. Although this law is of formal nature, as all these regions are already living in the capital, there is currently no established procedure for calculating time by federal law.
The President of Russia signed a law adopted by the State Duma and approved by the Federation Council, according to which a number of regions of the country will officially live in the capital.
The document was published on 14 April. It lists the regions for which the 2nd time zone is set, as in Moscow. Among them are the territories that were annexed to Russia during the hostilities in Ukraine – the LNR, the DNR, Zaporozhye and the Kherson region. In addition, the list includes Tatarstan, Dagestan, Crimea, Leningrad and Moscow regions, as well as St. Petersburg and Moscow itself. There are more than 50 regions in the list.
The law is rather formal in nature, all these regions already live in the capital. So far, federal law has not established the procedure for calculating time.
With the signing of this law, many regions of Russia will now be officially living in the capital. Although the law may seem formal in nature, it is an important step towards establishing a unified national time system. It remains to be seen how this new law will impact these regions and if it will lead to any changes in their daily lives. Nonetheless, this development is a noteworthy one and highlights the evolving nature of timekeeping and its importance in modern society.
