BMW finally officially announced the new generation 7 Series in Chile, a model that currently comes in a single version, but following getting to know it a bit, it seems that it doesn’t need more. The seventh generation (G70) of the 7 Series is a car that has several innovations that break with what has been seen before in this line of models. Starting off, it’s offered in only one size, the Extended Platform, much larger than the previous 7 Series. It also has a new design language and an interesting reinterpretation of luxury in its interior. In addition, the V12 engines are fired. In fact, this version has a six-cylinder engine, but supercharged and supported by a MHEV system.
BMW 7 Series: dimensions and design
- Largo: 5.391 mm
- Ancho: 1.954
- Alto: 1.544 mm
- Between axles: 3,21 metros
- Pour: 147 mm
- Trunk: 540 liters
- Weight: 2.090 kilos
This generation 7 Series is a very different car from every other 7 Series out there, although we’re clear it doesn’t have the athleticism of the first three generations. Even so, as a luxury car it wins a lot live and looks really impressive, even with more minimalist elements such as the handles flush with the sheet metal or the front mask with more integrated elements. The least minimalist, of course, is the famous double kidney grill with illuminated edges and active cooling, which absolutely dominates the entire front.
We must also talk regarding the spotlights, with adaptive LED matrix technology and anti-glare assistant. Daytime running lights can be ordered with the exclusive Iconic Glow package which features backlit Swarovski crystals with LED sequences for a truly beautiful and detailed effect. In Chile, this comes as standard.
Today, BMW works with a single size for the 7 Series, which is even larger than the extended platform “IL” models, intended for markets such as China or more executive versions. This also has a logical reason: the 7 Series has an electric twin, the i7, which needs space to fit batteries. It’s 130mm longer, 48mm wider and 51mm taller than a previous generation extended platform 7 Series.
Finally, there are the 21″ wheels with aerodynamic effect and two-tone treatment.
BMW 7 Series: interior and equipment
Very remarkable in the 7 Series are the seats. Comfort is superlative.
The interior of the 7 Series is quite an experience. Everything that might previously be aluminum or wood is replaced today by the so-called Interaction Bar, a glass bar that runs through the front doors and the entire main console. This has lighting and visual graphic effects, but also commands for easy access to car functions. Let’s not fool ourselves, there are still pieces that you can choose in open pore wood or carbon fiber. For example, as standard, the only version that arrives in Chile, the 740i, offers finishes in symmetrical shiny metallic gray noble wood, which contrasts with the BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery, with a perforated design.
Other interesting details are the glass roof with light effect on the glass (Sky Lounge) and the two touch screens on each rear door, with which specific elements can be controlled for each passenger. Even the doors are electrically and automatically open, like a Rolls-Royce.
Equipment for the 740i includes:
- Four-zone climate control
- Ambient lighting package
- Electric front seats with memory, massage and climate control
- Paquete Heat Comfort:
- Steering wheel, front and rear armrests are all heated, as are the rear seats.
- Photosensitive mirrors

- 4D audio with shakers in the front seats
- Sistema Bass Performance Plus
- 1,965 watts of final power
And we leave the best 7 Series option for last, the huge BMW Theater Screen for the rear passengers, in a 32:9 format with 8K resolution and 31” that extends from the roof downwards, delivering a private cinema experience.
