Tervel Pulev is out with a broken rib following his TKO win over Joel Schodgreen in Costa Mesa, California. The Bulgarian received the injury following a blow to the body. Pulev had doubts regarding an injury even following the match, and subsequently the examination showed that his rib was broken, BTV reported. The doctors have advised him to take more rest.
“Congratulations on the success despite the rib injury received at the very beginning of the match. After that I had to be very careful regarding the protection of this area. I brought the left hand close to the body, which changed my game a little – the forehand was “absent”. Still I tried to keep the rhythm of the game going and my opponent didn’t feel the cutting pain I was in. I heard instructions to use the leading hand but I didn’t dare to hit the same spot once more. All thoughts passed me during these 3 round. I’m glad that I was able to pull myself together, pressure the American and grab the victory from a difficult situation. But that’s how the victory is sweeter!”, the boxer wrote on “Facebook”.
He added that “with painkillers he breathes better”.
The success was the 17th for Pulev in professional boxing, with 14 being by knockout. He has one loss – to Sergey Kovalev in his previous fight in May 2022.
