A slightly revised balance sheet. Tdriven by soaring food prices, theinflation reached 5.7% in March over one year in France, according the final estimate published Friday April 14 by INSEE. In its previous estimate, the institute initially put consumer price inflation in March at 5.6% year on year.
However, inflation has slowed down compared to February, when it stood at 6.3%. This slowdown is mainly linked to the slowdown in energy prices, notes INSEE. The rise in energy prices stood at 4.9% in March, once morest 14.1% in February, due to a sharp decline in petroleum products and a more modest deceleration in gas, which offset an acceleration in electricity prices.
Over one year, food prices continued to accelerate, climbing 15.9% in March, following 14.8% in February. Fruits and vegetables, bread, cereals, meat, cheese, chocolate and drinks are affected by this trend. Finally, the prices of manufactured products rose slightly in March, to 4.8%, driven by clothing and footwear.
