US Treasury official to come to Switzerland to discuss sanctions against Russia

Sanctions: a visit by a US Treasury representative to Switzerland is planned

The US Treasury’s top sanctions official, Undersecretary Brian Nelson, will visit Switzerland next week to discuss new measures aimed at cracking down on Russia sanctions evasion, an official has told reporters, reports the Archyde.com agency. Switzerland has made it clear that it does not want to be seen as a haven for circumventing international sanctions and that it is working with the United States and other partners on these issues, he added.

Newspapers of the Tamedia group were also able to consult a letter sent by the ambassadors of the G7 countries to the Federal Council, in which they criticize Switzerland for not sufficiently implementing the sanctions once morest the Russian oligarchs. The letter asks the Swiss authorities to “take further measures to clarify the distinction between the protection of the private sphere of litigants and those who abuse the private sphere to protect economic owners”, adding that it is “the reputation of Switzerland”, specify these newspapers.
