the positivity rate is increasing but hospitalizations are decreasing

The weekly bulletin from Public Health France reports a slight increase in the Covid-19 positivity rate, in a context of a decrease in the screening rate. The incidence rate also decreases “moderately”.

A slight epidemic recovery which does not seem to affect the hospital for the moment. The week of April 3-9, the Covid-19 test positivity rate was 18.9%, up from 17.7% the previous week, according to the weekly review of Public Health France, (SPF) published this Thursday. This increase is to be placed in a context where the screening rate is decreasing, according to this public body dependent on the Ministry of Health.

SPF noted a “moderate” decrease in the incidence rate (81 new positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants once morest 84 the previous week), except in Overseas France where it was “increasing in several regions, with levels remaining low”.

At the national level, the number of visits to the emergency room and new hospitalizations were decreasing. New hospitalizations were even at “a very low level” in 2020, compared to 2,535 the previous week.

Vaccination still needed

Public Health France recalls, however, that “due to the insufficient level of vaccine boosters and the persistent circulation of SARS-CoV-2, vaccination once morest COVID-19 in targeted persons remains necessary”.

As of April 10, 2023, only 23.5% of people aged 60-79 and 26.2% of people aged 80 and over had received a booster suitable for the Omicron variant, according to the SPF bulletin.

“Adherence to barrier gestures and other recommended measures remains recommended, especially in the event of symptoms or a positive test to protect vulnerable people,” adds the organization.
