Active united opposition movements; Crucial meeting between Pawar, Rahul, and Kharge

On April 13, 2023 at 9:29 PM IST, the National Congress Party (NCP) had a meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to further the opposition unity efforts for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Sharad Pawar, the NCP leader, was also in attendance along with AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. The meeting, which focused on opposition unity strategies, was held at Kharge’s residence in Delhi.

Recent reports suggested that some opposition parties are forming an alliance to face the BJP in the upcoming elections. The Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav also met with Rahul Kharge recently, which was followed by Pawar’s visit to Delhi.

In the past week, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yechury and General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) D. Raja also met with Nitish Kumar. Additionally, Nitish Kumar met with the National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party. It is expected that the Congress will call for a meeting of opposition party leaders in the near future.
