Pro-Russian hackers claim cyberattack on Hydro-Quebec

The Hydro-Quebec website and application are inaccessible Thursday morning, due to a cyberattack claimed by the group NoName057 (16) on Telegram.

The cyberattack “resulted in the closure of our website and mobile application (including the Customer Space and Info-Panes). Our protection systems quickly detected the attack”, confirmed to the Duty a spokesman for the state corporation, Philippe Archambault.

“Hydro-Québec’s critical systems were not impacted. There was no data infiltration or exfiltration. No personal data was compromised,” he said in an email.

“Our teams are working to put our website, the Customer Space and our mobile application back online as soon as possible,” added Mr. Archambault, without giving any indication of the restoration of services.

Another state-owned company official, Francis Labbé, told The Canadian Press he was unable to speculate on the identity of any individuals or group responsible for the cyberattack.

Over the past few days, a few Canadian organizations have been targeted by cyberattacks claimed by pro-Russian groups.

After Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s site on Tuesday, the sites of the Port of Quebec, the Laurentian Bank and the Prevost bus company were blocked by hackers.

On Wednesday followingnoon, the mayoress of Montreal, Valérie Plante, announced that the Port of Montreal had been affected.

Francis Labbé reported that a team of regarding 300 people was at the service of the state-owned company to prevent cyberattacks as much as possible and to counter them when they occur.
