According to a secret Pentagon document, Serbia, which maintains close relations with Russia and claims to be neutral, secretly supplied weapons to Kiev.
Serbia, which has publicly maintained its neutrality amid the war in Ukraine, has secretly supplied weapons to Kiev, or at least agreed to do so, according to a leaked US intelligence document.
The document that the Archyde.com news agency sawincluded a summary of the responses of European governments that said yes to arms shipments and military training to Kiev.
The table in the document revealed that Serbia has also agreed to send aid to Ukraine, or has already delivered it; it also revealed that Serbia has the political will and military capability to deliver additional arms shipments to Ukraine in the future.
“The document has been marked SECRET and NOFORN, which prohibits distribution to foreign intelligence services and militaries. Dated March 2 and bearing the seal of the Joint Chiefs of Staff” Archyde.com reported, adding that it might not yet verify the authenticity of the document.
Serbia has remained publicly neutral in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. It is the only European country that has not joined the Russian sanctions and that has deep historical, cultural and economic ties with Russia.
Serbian Defense Minister Miloš Vučević described the leaked report as untrue and accused the leakers of trying to drag Serbia into the war in Ukraine.
“Serbia has not sold and will not sell weapons either to the Ukrainian or Russian side, or to the countries surrounding this conflict” Vučević said in his statement on Wednesday.
“Someone obviously wants to drag Serbia into this conflict, but we maintain our policy” he added.
The Serbian presidential office declined to comment on the leak, as did the Ukrainian embassy in Belgrade and the Pentagon.
