Waves of video footage of alleged beheading of Ukrainian prisoners of war… “Possibility of Russia’s Wagner Group”

AFP and dpa news outlets reported that a video allegedly beheading a Ukrainian prisoner by Russian forces is causing waves in the international community.

According to reports, a video showing a man wearing a mask in camouflage beheading a man in military uniform has been circulating online since the 11th.

The US think tank War Research Institute pointed to the Wagner Group, a Russian private mercenary group, as the perpetrators of the crime.

As media reports continued following the video was distributed, Ukraine compared Russia to Islamic extremist armed forces, the Islamic State and ISIS, and urged a joint response from the international community.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address that “this video is Russia as it is” and criticized it as “not an accident, not a single incident”.

European Union, EU spokeswoman Nabila Masrali also said, “If the video is confirmed to be true, the EU reaffirms its firm commitment to hold all perpetrators and accomplices of war crimes accountable.”
