The exhibition as an object of study – Thot Cursus

Exhibitions open up, diversify, become more inclusive, leave museums, become virtual, are required to be eco-responsible, etc. From this movement is born the need to reflect on museum and curation practices.

Marie Fraser holder of the new Research Chair in Curatorial Studies and Practices of UQAM specifies its objective:

“In collaboration with arts organizations, university galleries and museums, we wish to carry out research projects on the history, theory and practice of exhibitions, to broaden the current field of curatorial studies to include in particular the performing arts, to develop experimental and engaged curatorial initiatives, and exploring alternative approaches and methods”

The official statement is “Enhancing curatorial knowledge and practice in order to rethink models of exhibiting and understanding the arts from a multi-sited and transdisciplinary perspective.”

Many projects, research and projects are underway and concretely demonstrate that transdisciplinarity is real and necessary.
