Emergency services in Picardy Wallonia received a notification regarding a traffic accident on the road between Aelbeke and Mouscron at around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Responders including an extrication vehicle, a marking truck, an SMUR, an ambulance and a command vehicle were dispatched to the site.
The accident took place on a straight stretch of road just prior to the “Plaine De Neckere,” which is known for hosting the “24 hours of Mouscron” race. The driver of a car inexplicably lost control of their vehicle and hit a tree on the right, then bounced and hit another tree on the left side of the road.
The driver was the only person involved and was extricated and freed from the vehicle quickly. The victim, a man in his thirties from Mouscron, suffered serious injuries and was attended to by an emergency doctor before being transferred to either the Mouscron or Kortrijk hospital center. Lieutenant Mathieu Delneste who directed the rescue operation provided this information.
This is not the first time that a serious accident has happened on this section of the Aelbeke road. In 2015, a young driver passed away following colliding with a tree at the same location.

For an unknown reason, the driver of a car lost control of his vehicle which first struck a tree with its right side, bounced, then struck a second tree with its left side, on the other side of the road.
“The car was the only one involved and the driver was alone on board. The driver was extricated and quickly pulled out of the sheets of his car. The victim, a man from Mouscron in his thirties, was seriously injured. He was taken care of by the emergency doctor and transferred to a hospital center, either Mouscron or Kortrijk”indicated Wednesday at the beginning of the followingnoon the lieutenant Mathieu Delneste who led the intervention.
It is not the first time that a serious accident has occurred along this Aelbeke road. In 2015, a young motorist died there following hitting a tree.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, another serious accident has occurred along the road from Aelbeke to Mouscron. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family during this difficult time.
