Towards a happy ending: in Klaipėda, volunteers dug out an old man’s apartment, and he played the accordion for the rescuers

The founder of the “Veik” foundation, Michail Andrijanov, announced that the cleaning work in the apartment of Stanislaus, who lives on Sulupės Street in Klaipėda, is almost finished.

On Wednesday, 40 bags of 250 liters and 30 bags of 350 liters were taken out of the apartment of the sick old man Stanislaus, located on Sulupės Street in Klaipėda. According to M. Andrijanov, 2 full containers of household waste and old, burnt furniture were collected. The foundation thanks Ecoservise and KRATC for the containers.

Two girls and two boys responded to the request for help to climb out of the sick person’s apartment. Together with two other volunteers of the Veik Foundation, they worked from 12:00 to 17:00.

The apartment was full of cockroaches, fleas, bedbugs, live and dead rats. Rats have gnawed through holes in the floor and from there travel throughout the apartment building, threatening the health of other residents of the house.

The volunteers not only cleaned the apartment, but also gave Stanislova a haircut. This one, being in a good mood, played the accordion for his benefactors.

M. Andrijanovas announces that the “Veik” foundation will apply to the prosecutor’s office due to the danger to human health and the protection of the public interest. The volunteers of the foundation will try to wash Stanislova and take her to her sister in the Kelme district, if she is still alive.

The volunteers of the foundation will also try to draw the attention of social institutions that Stanislaus needs help, and will create a petition.

“Only official institutions have the right to inquire regarding the whereregardings of the old man’s pension, which, as he himself says, he has not seen for a decade. Also to find out what are the debts for communal services (according to the data of the payment book, the last payment was in 2009) and other things”, writes M. Andrijanovas.

He knows, but he can’t help it

15min wrote regarding this story in early April. Neighbors claim that they have been trying for years to find ways to oblige the old man who accumulates waste to clean up. They claim to have written “everywhere”, but the result is the opposite – the mountain of waste in the two-room apartment continues to grow. People have almost gotten used to the stench and the parasites running out of the apartment.

Stanislovas, a man from Klaipėda who has no relatives or close friends, is rummaging around in containers. Mostly looking for glass containers, pots and food. They are dragged home.

M.Andrijanovas wrote regarding Stanislovas on his Facebook. However, they soon received messages from social workers, saying that they know the problem and are solving it.

“He wrote that there is no need to advertise, that everything will be fixed soon. I thought that maybe I was wrong, and I backed off,” said the interviewer. However, nothing changed, so M. Andrijanovas returned and started to clean Stanislaus’ apartment with volunteers.

Stanislaus and his problems are well known by social worker, Sulupės street elder, Klaipėda council member Saulius Liekis. He said that solving the situation is much more complicated than everyone would like.

“It’s difficult because he refuses services. Social services are not provided to people through coercion. He refuses to go to the hospital, he also refuses care services at home,” said the interviewer.

He recalled that the employees of the social support center applied to the prosecutor’s office to determine the man’s incapacity.

He had to be visited by officials and presented for examination. However, it is said that they even went three times and did not find him at home.
