With important economic activities for the country, the Metropolitan Region of Sorocaba (RMS) stood out in the generation of formal jobs last year among the regions of the state of São Paulo. There were 27,277 new jobs created from January to December 2022, according to data from Seade Trabalho.
Also according to Seade, RMS was only behind the metropolitan regions of São Paulo (294,094) and Campinas (47,232) in the accumulated balance of 2022, and in January 2023 it already accounted for 1736 vacancies created. The balance considers the number of admissions minus the number of dismissals in the same period.
The services sector leads the vacancies in the Metropolitan Region of Sorocaba in 2022. There were 12,070, which represents 44% of the total. Industry and commerce registered 6,127 and 6,083, respectively, and 1,269 jobs came from agriculture, livestock and fishing.
In Piedade, one of the 27 municipalities that are part of the RMS, Marina Rasa was one of the companies offering services and needed to increase its staff to meet the demand, driven by the total reopening of the space to customers and tourists.
“Today we have 30 employees working at the establishment to handle all the infrastructure and services we offer. With the end of the pandemic restrictions, the movement returned and we hired labor to work in our club, nautical garage, snack bar, accommodation, among others”, comments businessman Rafael Pinheiro do Carmo.
And it wasn’t just tourism that felt an increase in demand in the last year. The civil construction sector is also booming, influenced by the change in consumer behavior and the greater interest of people living in the capital of São Paulo to live in the countryside.
In the Metropolitan Region of Sorocaba, the construction sector was responsible for creating 1,728 jobs in 2022. Construtora Santa Clara, located at the RMS headquarters, invested in the construction of a BRL 15 million project and increased the hiring of professionals for the construction. Currently, more than nine thousand workers with a formal contract provide services to companies in the sector in the city.
