Sékou Bangoura at the helm: “I knew that one of my sons was a thief when he came to find me in Forécariah…”

The defendant Sékou Bangoura appeared yesterday, Tuesday April 11, 2023, before the correctional court of Dixinn relocated to the town hall of Ratoma, for a case of theft and complicity. He is accused, with his son Mohamed Bangoura (on the run) of theft of a sum of 400 million Guinean francs. The prosecutor requested his sentence to two years in prison and the payment of 400 million GNF, learned on the spot Guineematin.com through one of his reporters.

Sékou Bangoura, domiciled in Forécariah, has been detained since December 5, 2022. At the helm, he denied the facts of theft charged to him. Facts relating to the alleged theft of 400 million Guinean francs which would have been used to buy two vehicles and a motorcycle. A theft allegedly committed by his son Mohamed Bangoura, currently on the run, to the detriment of Mamadou Saliou Diallo, a civil party in this case.

“I decided to leave Conakry a while ago. I moved to live in Forécariah. I found out that one of my sons was a thief when he came to find me in Forécariah and I hadn’t seen him for a year. When he found me, he asked me if I had a voter’s card and I said to him “why are you asking me that? “. We left each other. I went to the field. But he left to deceive the vigilance of my wife and children to enter the house and steal my five (5) million GNF and my voter card. Since that day, I have not seen him once more,” he said.

Not being of the same opinion as the defendant, the civil party and his lawyer maintain that Sékou Bangoura is indeed the accomplice of his own son, Mohamed Bangoura in this case. The defense lawyer also informed the Court that the defendant present is not telling the truth.

In his argument, the lawyer for the civil party returned to the facts. “My client was the victim of a theft in October 2022. He filed a complaint. Following the investigations, he realized that it was Mr. Mohamed Bangoura who was the thief of his money. He was seen with the backpack that my client recognized. He bought two Renault and Mercedes vehicles and a motorcycle and left for Forécariah. In the lawsuit once morest them, the vehicles were recovered. But, Mohamed Bangoura fled. The father, being prosecuted for concealment, refuses to tell the truth. We were wronged in that theft, Mr. Speaker. He is in contact with his son. They are in agreement. We ask, we civil party, a compensation in relation to this theft and concealment. We demand payment of the 346 million GNF, the rest of the stolen 400 million. For damages, we claim 100 million GNF. And we are also asking for the return of the Mercedes car which is at the Kipé brigade”, pleaded the lawyer for the civil party.

For its part, the Public Ministry represented by Siba Toupou, in its requisitions, explains: “It is obvious that the author of the theft is Mr. Mohamed Bangoura, who is in contact with his father… We ask you to retain Mr. Mohamed Bangoura (on the run), in the bonds of guilt and to sentence him to five (5) years of imprisonment and to issue a warrant of arrest once morest him. For Sékou Bangoura, we ask to keep him in the bonds of guilt. For repression, to sentence to two (2) years imprisonment and payment of a fine of five million Guinean francs. The request of the civil party, you will grant it. For damages, you will reasonably assess and condemn them jointly and severally, ”launched the prosecutor.

The defense lawyer, saying that she is convinced of her client’s innocence, pleads for the application of the provisions of article 14 of the penal code. “His children are in Conakry and he in Forécariah. How can Monsieur Sékou Bangoura know that one of his sons is a thief? His son even stole money and his voting card. Since December, he has been in prison because of his son. He is a villager, Mr. President, and where he is, he is troubled. I ask you, Mr. President, to apply article 14 of the penal code in favor of Mr. Sékou Bangoura,” she pleaded.

The court, through Judge Mohamed Keïta, put the case under advisement for a decision to be rendered on April 25, 2023.
