Apple transfers production of its headset to Luxshare

New information from DigiTimes realize that the Taiwanese Pegatron will no longer be responsible for producing the first units of the long-awaited apple augmented/virtual reality headset. Last November, it is worth remembering, the vehicle had said that the manufacturer would have exclusivity in the assembly of the device.

According to DigiTimesApple asked Pegatron to transfer the production of the headset to China Luxshare, which recently bought its factory in Shanghai city. Pegatron, it’s worth noting, has been struggling lately to move its facilities to other regions outside of China—which may have triggered this whole move.

If this rumor is correct, Luxshare will officially be the first Chinese manufacturer to handle the entire manufacturing process of an Apple device. This transfer would have been carried out in the last month of March.

As noted by MacRumors, this change may not be all bad for Pegatron, as the company would hardly make any profit from producing the headset at first – given the low volume of units expected for its launch (800,000). Even so, this was considered a great opportunity for Pegatron to gain Apple’s trust and produce future iterations of the headset.

Currently, Luxshare manufactures iPhones, Apple Watches and AirPods for Apple. Rumors also show that the manufacturer should help in the production of the upcoming “iPhone 15 Pro Max” (or “Ultra”).
